Creative Coder:Apps & Games

Learn to code by building your own app or game, from your first lines of code to a live project you can share.

A 2D platformer, a 3D racing game and a web app built by campers

Creative Coder is our coding course for young people who want to make things: a game their friends can't put down, or an app that solves a real problem. Over the week you'll try building apps, 2D games and 3D games, then choose your path and create your own project from scratch.

Every lesson starts with your tutor teaching a new concept, from physics and collisions to logins, databases, multiplayer and game design, followed by a short challenge to check you've got it. You'll then put it straight into practice in your own project.

You'll write some HTML, CSS and JavaScript yourself, and use professional AI coding tools to build far more ambitious projects than you could alone. You choose how deep to go: dig into the code line by line, or have the AI do more of the typing while you direct it. As you go, your progress is tracked against the course's skills, so you can see exactly what you've mastered.

On Friday you'll show your finished project to parents, and take home a live link to share with friends and family.

Three paths to choose

Try all three in the first two days, then pick the one that excites you most for your own project. You can switch if inspiration strikes.

Solve a real problem

Build a tool people will actually use: for your club, your school, a hobby or a business idea. Learn how great apps are designed, store data and let users log in.

Platformers, shooters and RPGs

Create characters, levels and sprite animations, and learn what makes a game fun: controls that feel great, rewards and just the right amount of challenge.

Racing, FPS and open worlds

Build 3D worlds that run in the browser, with cameras, lighting, physics and 3D models. Add multiplayer so friends can play together.

Is this course for me?

I've done AI App Designer. Is this for me?

Yes. Creative Coder is a brand-new course with new guided projects, and it adds games, game design and much more hands-on coding. You'll also go further with what you already know: your tutor and the course adapt to your experience, so you'll skip what you've mastered and tackle more advanced extensions.

I've done 3D Game Design. Is this for me?

Yes. Instead of Unity, you'll build games that run in any web browser, so anyone can play them from a link. You'll learn new skills such as multiplayer, saving players' progress and user logins, and you can also try 2D games and apps.

I've never coded before. Will I keep up?

Absolutely. Everyone starts with the building blocks of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and lessons adapt to each camper. Beginners get a solid foundation; experienced coders skip ahead to more advanced material.

I'm 9. Or I'm 17. Is it right for my age?

Yes. Like all our courses, Creative Coder is designed so younger campers are stretched and older campers are challenged. Projects grow with your ambition, and there's always another level to explore.

Can I come back and do it again?

Yes. You can choose a different path the second time, such as a game if you made an app, and the course skips the skills you've already mastered so you start building your own project sooner.

In the classroom, you'll work alongside first-time campers but on your own track. At the start of each lesson, while your tutor introduces the concept to campers meeting it for the first time, you'll get straight on with your new topics and project. Your tutor then checks in with you on how your project and next challenge are going, and helps you go further, so everyone gets the same attention, just spent on what each camper needs.

Is it just using AI to write the code?

The focus is on learning. You'll write some code yourself, and use AI in two ways: to learn faster, with explanations and challenges based on your own code, and as your own junior programmer that you direct and manage, just as professional developers do today. Your tutor teaches a new concept every lesson, so you'll understand how your project works.

Do I need to bring a laptop?

No. We provide all the computers and software you'll need.

How the week works

1

Try every path

Start with the building blocks of the web, then make a 2D game, a 3D game and an app in guided builds. You'll have something working within the first few hours, and a feel for which path suits you.

2

Build your own

Choose your path and start your own project. Each lesson your tutor introduces a new concept, such as saving data, user logins or multiplayer, and you put it straight to work.

3

Share it

Test your project with real people, polish it, and learn how great apps and games get noticed. Show it off at Friday's parent showcase and take home a live link.
